Carrying out humanitarian, social and cultural events in the framework of solidarity with the people of Cuba has become the main task of activists of the Crimean regional branch of the Russian Society for Friendship with Cuba RSFC in 2021.

Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers - Minister of Finance of the Republic of Crimea Irina Kiviko reported about that during a speech on the program of the international online solidarity channel "Europe for Cuba".

"Cubans should feel our helping hand, the helping hand of big Russia, millions of Russians. This is the important role of people's diplomacy," Irina Kiviko said.

She said that in 2021, a number of events were held in Crimea aimed at popularizing the idea of strengthening bilateral ties and friendship with Cuba. These are photo exhibitions and book exhibitions dedicated to the 60th anniversary of human spaceflight and friendship with Cuba, the 95th anniversary of Fidel Castro, the 63rd anniversary of the victory of the revolution in Cuba. In addition, Crimeans have collected more than RUB 100 thousand for medicines for Cubans.

The Crimean organization RSFC has taken the initiative to hold a forum of Russian-Cuban friendship in the west Crimea in the summer of 2022. "We hope that the situation with the pandemic of the new coronavirus will improve and we will be able to see our friends from Cuba, as well as from the Russian regions. There will be an opportunity not only to discuss important and topical issues, but also to admire the beauty of our sunny peninsula, which is very similar to Cuba," she said.

RSFC activists took the initiative to name the embankment of the Russian-Cuban Friendship Embankment being built in the village of Olenevka on the Tarkhankut Peninsula, to install a memorial sign to Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara for the 95th anniversary of his birth, which will be celebrated in 2023, as well as the landing of the alley of Russian-Cuban friendship at the "Artek" International Children's Center.

In February, for the first time in Crimea, the First competition of young artists "Internationalism: Crimea-Cuba" will be held. The contest will be timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Operation "Anadyr", conducted by the USSR in defense of Cuba from the aggressive plans of the United States.

The program of the international online solidarity channel "Europe for Cuba" was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Russia Julio Garmendia Peña, one of the founders of the Irish Solidarity Forum with Cuba Phil Kelly, historian Alexander Kolpakidi, head of the archive group of the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Kharlamenko, journalist from Chile Oleg Yasinsky.
